Description and Classification

Flunitrazolam:

A triazolobenzodiazepine, a subclass of benzodiazepines that includes potent compounds like flubromazolam and clonazolam. It acts as a powerful central nervous system depressant by enhancing the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) at GABA-A receptors, producing sedative, hypnotic, and anxiolytic effects.

Flunitrazolam is an extremely potent benzodiazepine, with a potency estimated to be several times greater than traditional benzodiazepines like alprazolam (Xanax) or diazepam (Valium). Effective doses are typically measured in micrograms.
